How to Get to College:
  • Tell your counselor you want to go to college – he/she will help you map out your path to College
  • Take challenging courses that meet college eligibility requirements
  • Get As & Bs, particularly in English, Math, History, Science
  • Use annual STAR tests to see where you need help
6th Grade
  • Let counselor know you want to go to college
  • Develop good study habits
7th Grade:
  • Take English, pre-algebra
8th Grade:
  • Take English, Algebra and a foreign language
9th Grade
  • Plan high school curriculum to meet all the college eligibility A-G requirements
  • Take English, Algebra I or Geometry
10th Grade
  • Take English, Geometry or Algebra II and other A-G courses
  • Try passing the CAHSEE test
  • Visit one or more College Campuses
11th Grade
  • Take English, advanced Math or Algebra II
  • Take PSAT course in the fall; SAT or ACT in the spring
  • Retake the CAHSEE test if needed
  • Visit the college campus you may want to apply to
12th Grade
  • Complete A-G course requirements
  • Retake SAT or ACT tests; ensure that you've passed CAHSEE
  • Complete college financial aid applications in the fall
