AVID Summer Bridge Program

The Issue:
The transition from the academic and social atmosphere of middle school to high school can be an extra challenge to students from underprivileged backgrounds.

The Opportunity:
Design a special summer program that provides an introduction to high school, especially to the rigors of math, science and writing. Add a dose of fun, experimentation and camaraderie with fellow students, teachers and tutors.

The Solution

• Serves AVID students who are from low income and/or 1st generation backgrounds
• Introduces incoming freshmen via a 4-week summer program to high school math, science and/or writing
• Reinforces the college-going focus with a College Info Night and tour of a local 4-year university
• Enables credentialed teachers and tutors to teach in small, personalized groups
• Engages upper-class high school and college students in coaching and mentoring the in-coming freshmen
• Includes community building and leadership development
