Barbara Adey, Senior Director, Strategy and Operations, Cisco Systems
Barbara is the chief of staff for Borderless Networks at Cisco Systems, responsible for strategy and operations for Cisco's core business. In prior roles at Cisco, she built the Cisco go-to-market strategy for Data Center / Virtualization in 2009 and led the worldwide sales launch of Cisco TelePresence in 2006.

Prior to joining Cisco, Barbara was the Vice President of Technology for the Canadian Cable Television Association and the founding president of the Canadian Numbering Association. She holds a Bachelors degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from York University, and is also a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.

Barbara lives in Los Altos with her husband, Juris Silkans.

Manny Barbara, Vice President, Advocacy and Thought Leadership, SVEF
Manny Barbara s Vice President, Advocacy and Thought Leadership at the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. Until recently, he served for ten years as Superintendent of the Oak Grove School District. Under his tenure, student performance increased for all District student subgroups, including the number of students successfully completing algebra and geometry by the end of grade 8. Over the last 35 years in Oak Grove education, Manny has served as an elementary and intermediate school principal, held director positions in curriculum and evaluation, instruction, bilingual/English learner programs as well has been the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. Manny currently serves on State Superintendent Jack O’Connell’s State P-16 Committee, focusing on reform issues, specifically, closing the achievement gap. Manny has received many honors ranging from Superintendent of the year (’02 and ’04) to “Educator of the Year (‘08) from 100 Black Men. Manny has both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from San Jose State.

Julie Cates, Secretary of the Board, ALearn
Julie Cates is the Treasurer, the Secretary, and a member of the Board of Directors of ALearn. She was previously a marketing manager at Rambus Inc. for fourteen years and a marketing manager at Weitek Corporation for seven years and held engineering and marketing management positions at Hewlett Packard. While at Rambus, Ms. Cates started and lead the Community Outreach Committee. She has long been active in local schools as a member of the school site council at the Los Altos High School, PTA President and School Site Council member for the Bullis Elementary School, and served for seven years on the Board of the Los Altos Education Foundation. She has a BS and a MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Diane Frankle, Partner, DLA Piper
Diane Frankle is Chairman of the Board of Directors. Diane is a Partner, serves on the Policy Committee and is Chair of the Public Company and Corporate Governance Group at DLA Piper. She regularly advises clients in a wide variety of mergers, acquisitions, and change of control transactions and on various disclosure and governance issues. She is a member of the ABA’s Committee on Negotiated Acquisitions and the Committee on Corporate Laws, and chairs the ABA’s Task Force on Public Company Acquisitions. She served on the State Bar of California Business Law Section Corporations Committee from 1992 1996, was co-chair from 1995-1996 and was the editor in chief of the State Bar’s Guide to California Securities Law Practice.

Laura Casas Frier, Foothill-DeAnza Foundation Board, Trustee
Laura Casas Frier serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Foothill-De Anza College. Laura co-founded a transitional home for domestic violence victims and their children and served for five years as chair of the Adelante Higher Education Conference, designed to encourage underrepresented high school girls to pursue higher education, among other activities. Laura Casas Frier holds a law degree from Santa Clara University and a bachelor's degree in political science from California State University, Northridge.

Nan Geschke, Co Founder Los Altos History Museum
Nan is a retired librarian and middle school teacher. She managed the Westinghouse Research Facility library in Sunnyvale California during the 1980's. Nan also worked as sales director and as a consultant for a small Library placement firm until 1993. Nan served as President of the San Andreas (Silicon Valley) chapter of the Special Libraries Association in 1986-87. She served on the Historical Commission of the City of Los Altos California for ten years from 1991 to 2000, serving as chair for six years. While serving on the commission, Nan produced the Los Altos History Show for eight years. Nan was one of two project managers that helped plan and build the city of Los Altos's first museum, the Los Altos History Museum. She holds a bachelors degree in History and Political Science from Marygrove College and a master's degree in Library Science from San Jose State University.

Kathryn S. Hanson, CEO and Founder, ALearn
Kathryn Hanson is Founder and CEO of ALearn, an educational non-profit organization. ALearn's goal is to increase the number of underprivileged students who have access to high level learning programs throughout their K-12 years,and who therefore enroll in and graduate from college. Before ALearn, she was President of The Hanson Group, a strategy and marketing consulting firm for high technology and Internet companies.

She was a founder of e-Mentoring, an e-learning company and a co-founder of Satmetrix (previously CustomerCast), a Customer Satisfaction Internet Software company. She also serves on the Board of TUI, an online university. She has a BA in English from Stanford University, a MA and a Ph.D. in English from University of Chicago, and a MBA from Harvard Business School.

John Huber, Senior Vice President, Wells Fargo Bank
John Huber is a Senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank, NA where he has worked in various capacities for the past 20 years. John is currently responsible for client origination for the Bank's Commercial, Growth Technology and Renewable Energy groups within the Silicon Valley region.

John received his BA from Northwestern University, MBA from University of Chicago and various coursework at New York University and the London School of Economics. John serves on the Board of the Asia America Multitechnology Association and lives in Palo Alto with his wife and 2 children.

Francisco Jiménez, Professor and Director of the Ethnic Studies Program at Santa Clara University
Francisco Jiménez immigrated with his family to California from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, and as a child he worked in the fields of California. He is currently the Fay Boyle Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and director of the Ethnic Studies Program at Santa Clara University. Having received his B.A. from Santa Clara University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American literature from Columbia University under a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, he has served on various professional boards and commissions, including the California Council for the Humanities, and Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities (WASC). He was selected the 2002 U.S. Professor of the Year by CASE and Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

He has published and edited several books on Mexican and Mexican American literature, and his stories have been published in over 50 textbooks and anthologies of literature. His collection of autobiographical short stories, The Circuit: Stories from the Life of a Migrant Child was selected a Booklist Editors’ Choice 1997.

His other books include La Mariposa (Smithsonian’s Notable Book for Children award); The Christmas Gift (a Notable Children’s Book by the American Library Association); and Breaking Through Booklist Editors’ Choice and American Assn. Best Book for Young Adults and many more awards. His latest book, Reaching Out, describes his experience as a first generation college student at Santa Clara University.

Webb McKinney, former EVP, Hewlett Packard Co.
Webb McKinney is a member of the Board of Directors. He is currently a management consultant. He also serves on the boards of Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) and The American Leadership Forum of Silicon Valley. He worked for Hewlett Packard Co. for thirty-four years and was its EVP prior to retiring from HP. He has a BS and a MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California.

Frank Pisciuneri, Managing Director, Corporate Finance at Silicon Valley Bank
Frank Pisciuneri is a member of the ALearn Board, Treasurer of ALearn. Frank is Managing Director, Corporate Finance at Silicon Valley Bank where he provides financing and banking services to large, public and privately-held technology and life science companies.

Prior to joining Silicon Valley Bank, Frank served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance at Wyse Technology Inc. He also served in various senior financial management positions with Citrix Systems, Inc. and Ryder System, Inc. He began his career with Deloitte & Touche and holds a B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Vats Srivatsan, Principal in McKinsey & Company's Business Technology Office
Vats is a member of the Board of Directors. He is currently a Principal in McKinsey & Company's Business Technology Office and co-leads the ERP, IT enabled operations and sales operations service lines. Prior to McKinsey, Vats worked at Dell Computer where he was Director of Business Strategy for Dell's Enterprise Systems Group and at Intel, where he held several roles including leader of the factory automation team for 300 mm manufacturing.

Srivatsan serves on the India Growth Advisory Board of Interplast, a healthcare non-profit organization and has previously helped other non-profits such as "Save the Children" which focuses on children's education and healthcare. He has conducted a course on operational risk analysis at Boston University, been on several industry panels including the International Business Forum of Kellogg University, Global technology distribution council and published papers in Operations Research, IEEE and McKinsey Quarterly. Vats earned a Ph.D. in Operations Research with a minor in General Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also holds a B.S. in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

Valerie Vasquez, Audit Partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP
Valerie is an audit partner in the San Jose office of Deloitte, specializing in networking and wireless communications clients. She has over 20 years of experience and serves both publicly traded and private companies, advising them in structuring contracts, mergers and acquisitions, general accounting issues and transactions such as initial public offerings.

Valerie has been on the boards of other not for profits, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, and United Way and is active with the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

Valerie has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Iowa State University and is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
